Just days after the CRTC lamented the gradual disappearance of independent ISPs in this country, Rogers has gobbled up another one. In a letter to customers, Comwave has told customers the company is now owned by Big Red, although for now, they intend to keep the name.
"Rogers has committed to allowing Comwave to operate independently, as well as to maintaining the ISP’s local presence in Ontario, Quebec, B.C., Alberta and Manitoba. Rogers also seems committed to maintaining Comwave staff, though the company’s recent merger history suggests that won’t happen."
Somewhat ironically, Comwave used to advertise using the slogan "Stop being pushed around by the big phone and cable companies." We now know who's doing that pushing.

One free month for Comwave customers that switch to Coextro, a company that is STILL not owned by one of the big guys.
