I love stories about what might have been. And what might have been for former ESPN and NBC sportscaster Dan Patrick could well have changed his life forever.
According to his new book, the broadcaster was offered the job to host The Price Is Right when Bob Barker retired. But when CBS refused to tell him how much they'd pay him, he didn't pursue it.
But that wasn't his only flirtation with game show greatness. He apparently also was briefly considered to host Jeopardy! when negotiations with the late Alex Trebek ran into a few problems. In the end, Trebek re-signed but Patrick wasn't completely shutout - he hosted a version of the show called "Sports Jeopardy!" that aired on the free streaming service Crackle in the U.S.
Two close calls that could have changed the face of television.
