Total Speculation, But Does Monday's 640 Line-up Change Mean Anything?

I want to reiterate the subject line - this is total speculation. But I can't help but be suspicious about this, after Corus' less than stellar earnings report came out on Friday.

On Monday, Alex Pierson will be off, with Anthony Furey taking her place from 9AM-12 PM. Kelly Cutrara will also not be on air immediately afterwards as Steve Paikin fills in for her. I've been around these kinds of things long enough to wonder if something is up.

I well remember when one of the places I worked at decided to make some big staffing cuts, and we were all called to a meeting in a big boardroom, where the powers-that-be proceeded to inform us that changes were coming, and not everyone was keeping their jobs. It was a horrible, horrible day. But in order for everyone to be there, the two morning-early afternoon show hosts were subbed for on the same day, which outside of a holiday weekend, almost never happens.

I'm wondering if there's a similar meeting in the works at Corus Quay where bad news is coming. Again, I have no proof. But it's very odd that both hosts would be off on the same day at the same time. That doesn't mean doom for them, only that they may be required to attend a meeting - if there is one.

I really hope I'm wrong, But I've seen it - and been there - before. And this is how it all started.

This must be a tense and unnerving weekend to get through if you're one of the 640 crew involved, wondering what's to happen...

Or it could just be a total conicidence. But given the comments of the brass in previous stories on Friday, noting that more cuts are coming, you have to wonder...

I guess we'll find out on Monday.

Colin Bohm, Executive V.P. Content and Corporate Strategy is out (this was actually being announced last week before the Q4 Earnings and Year end 2023 results call on Friday).

I think It's unlikely, as both fill in hosts have full time jobs. I think coincidence. I think both fill ins are of a fill in quality .

640 seems to be going in a better direction.  Other than some John Moore in the morning until 9, and Vassy from 12 to 2, 1010 is virtually un-listenable.

Just to be clear, I wasn't suggesting they were going to hire Paikin or Furey as full-timers. Only that they're both in on the same day filling in for the regulars, who are unusually off on the same day. That's what raised my suspicions about them being called to a staff meeting to warn about what's coming next after last week's bad fiscal news.

Again, it could just be my imagination mixed in with my own previous experiences. I would dearly love to be wrong because those meetings are never, ever fun.
