Every now and then, a radio ad comes out that is so bad, if I'm in another room, I will actually get up and run to the receiver to turn it off. One of them is that execrable Subaru spot that features a fitness expert yelling exercise commands at you.
But now there's a new one and it may be even worse. It's two very annoying women talking about the vacation they just booked with an airline or a travel firm. At the start of the commercial, one of them starts literally screaming about the vacation she just booked. At the end, they both finish by screaming even louder.
My question: why, oh why do ad copy writers think listeners want to be yelled at by people they're hoping will buy their product? This seems to be becoming a trend and it sets my teeth on edge to the extent that I refuse to listen to it. So not only do I not hear the message, but it also causes me to tune out the station that was playing it. And I often don't come back. I can't be the only one.
So to the ad agencies: please, stop SCREAMING at your audience. Or, somewhat ironically, we will no longer be able to hear you at all.

This awful ad for the same last-minute vacation company is just 'Chloe 2'. The geniuses responsible for this thing must figure that if a little girl screaming at the top of her lungs was good, 2 grown women screaming at the top of their lungs must be even better. I also nominate the Subaru spot currently soiling the airwaves with the kids singing annoyingly in the background, while a meekly whining 'Dad' complains about 'The singing... Nobody warned me about the singing!' Just horrible.
