A fun article in the Vancouver Sun recounts the unlikely events of 1964, when one of the paper's curmudgeonly columnists wrote about CFUN Radio, the CHUM of that city, calling the Top 40 music it was playing "sounds for the retarded." That word would likely get him fired today, but back then, it unfortunately made his point. 

The late and legendary Canadian DJ Red Robinson was P.D. of the station and wrote a blistering and very effective response for the paper, which it published in its entirety, coming to the defence of the music - and its listeners.

“In my opinion, a critic of anything is one who knows or has a basic understanding of the item he’s criticizing. For your information, radio has undergone a great change since the days of Fibber Magee and Molly. 

“Age sometimes creeps up on an individual without him realizing it. In your advanced years, you have shuffled your young years into a closet and locked the door.”
