I've always been a big fan of Carl Lam, who does weather updates on CityNews 680 on the weekends. He's one of the few who does each hit live, which makes tracing a storm or rain coming our way on a Saturday or a Sunday a lot easier to plan for.
Lam was also the weekend weather meteorologist for WGRZ-TV, Channel 2 in Buffalo. I say "was" because according to Alan Pergament of the Buffalo News, he's no longer going to be on the station, except for a few possible fill-ins.
The News scribe explains that Lam's schedule is so full, he can't possibly do everything anymore.
"He is a resource analyst at the University at Buffalo, the midday meteorologist with City News 1130 in Vancouver, the weekend meteorologist for CityNews 680 in Toronto and is pursuing his fourth graduate degree in engineering management at UB. He also will continue to be a substitute violinist with the Erie (Pa.) Philharmonic. "Even I lose track sometimes!" he wrote."
Wow, that's quite a workload! And yes, in case you didn't know, he's an amazing violinist, a talent he only occasionally demonstrates on air. (Tough to work it in during your average weather forecast, I suppose!) But here he is demonstrating his talents a number of years ago on Channel 2, surprising even his colleagues.
