A Viewer's Plea To Global & Meteorologist Anthony Farnell

As many here know in painful detail from my previous rants, I'm something of a stickler when it comes to TV weather forecasts. For a number of reasons, I really need to know when the bad weather is coming so I can make plans, especially for walking my dog, who absolutely will not go out in the rain. (Global does a "dog walking forecast", which is my pooch's favourite part of their show!)

Which explains why the so-called "Future Radar" that most stations have is vital to me.

Flash back to Thursday night and Anthony Farnell, likely the meterologist I trust most, on Global's 6 PM newscast. As you can see from the frame grabs below, Farnell was doing his peerless prognostication as usual, when he does the one thing that drives me completely insane (Not a long drive I'll admit!)

They put up the graphic with the timing of the coming storms, only to have him stand in front of the clock, meaning you can't see the most important information of the entire forecast. It's absolutely infuriating not being able to see what's there, even though they're showing it to you. He and his cohorts constantly block the timing out of the storms by standing in front of the graphic, rendering them almost useless.

My plea is to please, please consider redesigning this map. Put the clock somewhere, anywhere else on screen - the other side, the bottom, the middle, any place that won't stop the viewer from being able to see it. Or step out of frame longer. I can't be the only one who finds this incredibly irritating. Why bother putting the timeline on screen only to continually block it?

I hope they fix this and soon. Winter's coming and the storms that accompany them are, too. While Mr. Farnell's head is no doubt very attractive to watch as he crowds out the time, it would be nice to know when to prepare for the worst. And please do it soon - the clock is ticking.

Not that we'll be able to see it.

...and this is where CityNews should be gaining better ratings. (done right)
Week-ends lately have just been a voice while the weather screen is present. You don't get to see the person at all. If they were to have that same weather clock, there'd be nobody in the way of it.

RadioWiz & RadioQuiz are NOT the same person.
RadioWiz & THE Wiz are NOT the same person.

A little odd as presumably, Anthony should be able to see his positioning on the side monitors and monitor on the camera (which are typical in green screen weather sets)

Re: A Viewer's Plea To Global & Meteorologist Anthony Farnell

This has been an issue on Global’s weather forecasts for as long as I can remember, going back to Susan Hay in the 90s. I actually thought of this last weekend when the weekend weather person (I forget her name) was doing the same thing and blocking the Southwestern Ontario temperatures.
