Toronto went through a bad time in 2003. The respiratory disease SARS had almost shut down the city and the World Health Organization advised the public to avoid travelling to Toronto. The city's tourism industry was in shambles.
Twenty years ago yesterday one of the biggest outdoor concerts took place showing the world that Toronto was a safe place to visit again. Some of the world's biggest bands and artists took part, headlined by the Rolling Stones.
Much Music and CBC broadcast off and on all day and evening, and 500,000 people showed up on a beautiful summer day to enjoy the food, drink and music. More memories from CBC.ca...

Went with my son and fun was had by all except Justin Timberlake.

We were in Florida then. When we met people and told them we were from Canada, they would take a couple of steps back away from us.
All the businesses there with Chinese or other Asian employees, like restaurants, hair shops and nail shops made the Asian personnel wear face masks.
