Jerry Agar May Be Off Air For A While After His Fill-In Is Finished

The longtime CFRB mid-morning host is filling for the next two weeks while John Moore is on vacation. But once Moore is back, you won't be hearing much from Agar, potenitally for a while. The long awaited knee operation he's been waiting months and months to get is scheduled soon after John returns, and Agar will be off air while he recovers.

It's not clear yet how long he'll be gone or who will take his place, but Mark Towhey may get a semi-regular gig for a while if the past scheduling is any indication. The real question for me is, if Moore needs more time off for health reasons, who would take his place?

With so few listening, does it matter? 😉

I'm sure it matters to him!

I enjoy listening to Mark Towhey.  I think he does a great job.

When Jerry fills in for John Moore, wonder if the ratings slide much.  I understand his regular mid morning show doesn't carry much audience from the morning.  And with RB having an older audience, many are still around after 9am.  Maybe the audience prefers Moore's more positive laid back tone rather than Agar's negativity, thunder and bluster.

Knee replacements are very good these days.
And with the ability to work from home Agar should not have to be gone long.
Although he will need physio appointments but those could be scheduled for late afternoon after his show is over.
Not that I would be on tenterhooks waiting for Agar's return.

Re: Jerry Agar May Be Off Air For A While After His Fill-In Is Finished

My late mother had both knees replaced at the same time, which was unusual. Her recuperation took a good number of weeks as she had to learn to walk again and do lots of physio. I remember it as a rough time, but she eventually came back and was better than before. This was a long time ago, and I understand they've improved the techniques they use, so hopefully those undergoing the surgery can heal faster and get back to normal sooner.

As for Agar, I think I recall him saying his home studio was in his basement, so it will be tougher to get up and down those stairs for a while!

I agree and he's got good social media chops too.

RA's fixation with little Johnny Moore is an ongoing snooze. Ratings are UP with Agar but when your station's ratings are around 1%, who cares about the once MIGHTY 1010

highly, highly unlikely .. provide support for your claim ..

don't like RA's forum, you are encouraged to "spin the dial" & find a "curmudgeon" site ..

Re: Jerry Agar May Be Off Air For A While After His Fill-In Is Finished

I post a lot about CFRB and CFIQ mainly because those are the stations I listen to, so I know the most about them.  I would love to have people post about other radio outlets in the GTA, but the problem is the very strength of those more highly rated stations is what makes then so uninteresting.

When was the last time, besides changing their morning team a few years ago, that CHFI made any real news? Their very consistency is what makes them successful - but also boring. There's not much to say about them, because they never do anything different. Adding the latest Taylor Swift song into their playlist isn't going to be either a surprise or something that would be worthy of comment.

But because they deal with news and breaking topics, as well as take a position on the left or the right, the talkers are by definition more controversial and thus generate more impressions here, even if the ratings are somewhat lacking these days.

By all means, please update us on the latest from Today Radio, Elmnt FM, CHUM-FM or Indie88.1, if you listen to them and if there's anything to say. I, for one, would love to read about anything news or comment-worthy they do. Sadly, in my experience, that just doesn't happen too often.

g121....ratings are up because I listen.  Never listen to little Johnny.
1010 ratings are 1%ish (use to be 10+) because Johnny doesn't cut it for the most important lead-in for any station.....the 6-9am slot.
Also, thx for the dial spin advice

That's the third time you've referred to John Moore as "little Johnny". Are you referring to his height? Is he unusually short, or are you referring to something else?

Re: Jerry Agar May Be Off Air For A While After His Fill-In Is Finished

Love him or hate him, you have to somewhat admire Jerry Agar's powers of recuperation. Just 13 days after getting knee surgery, he's back in the air, despite still being in some pain. Either that, or credit to his doctors.

I recall when my late mother had knee surgery at least 25 years ago. It took her more than a month just to be able to get back to anything resembling normal, including all the rehab. But I'm sure techniques have improved since then.

No one could blame him for taking more time off. (And I'm sure some here would prefer that!) The fact he's back that fast is quite remarkable. (He'd already been making appearances last week in the last half hour of his show.)

Nice to know if I ever need (kneed?) this operation, it's possible to make a quick recovery.

I had meniscus surgery Aug. 17, I walked out of the hospital two hours later . The surgeries now are mostly performed with a camera inserted in the affected area so the incision area is much smaller resulting in faster recovery.

Speaking of knees, who has 30 seconds to save their knees?
