One Of TV's Best Unseen Shows Is Free Online

Don't know how many here take advantage of CTV's "Throwback" page, but it offers some asolutely amazing TV shows online - and unlike most things from Bell, they're all free.

One of the best is a program you might have never seen if you didn't have cable in the early days. It's called "The Larry Sanders Show" and it stars Garry Shandling as the host of a "Tonight Show"-type late night program and all the backstage backstabbing and intrigue that goes along with doing a talker five nights a week.

The late Shandling comes by the role honestly, having guest hosted the real Tonight Show countless times. And he's terrific as the neurotic, ego-driven star, who often comes off as an a-hole when the cameras are off. If you've ever wondered what goes on during the commercial breaks this may answer all your questions.

The late, great Rip Torn steals the show as the Fred de Cordova-like producer Artie, who tries to both rally and protect his star, even if it means screwing over everyone else. And then there are the later episodes with X-Files star David Duchvony, playing himself and revealing that he's actually a sex addict. Those are astounding.

The language and the situations are adult (this was an HBO show originally) but critics generally acknowledge it's one of the best comedies of its kind.

All six seasons are online and as mentioned, every one of them is free. If you've never watched this, especially if you ever check out the late night network TV talk shows, it truly is Must See TV. Find all of the episodes here.

I suspect many on this forum are well aware of The Larry Sanders Show.

And yes, it is brilliant.

I'm not sure if this site is exactly kosher, but it has all seven seasons of Arli$$ for free. That show, about a devious sports agent who will do anything for the talent he represents, featured a ton of real-life athletes playing themselves. It was a worthy successor to "Sanders," with Robert Wuhl in the lead. Another absolute gem and you don't have to be a sports fan to appreciate it.
