The Website Where Everything Oldies Is New Again

It’s a truism of the music business that nearly every artist has their time. And with only a few exceptions, when it’s over, the spotlight goes out and their careers are all but done, relegated to the oldies circuit. But a host of artists continue to record new material, hoping fans will find it and buy it.

Which is the whole point of a new site called Boomeroom.com. While the hits of some famous artists are there, the idea seems to be to highlight the latest recordings by some former big names, which they’ve chosen to highlight with the unfortunate name “NEWdies.” (Sounds like a musical lover’s naturist preserve.) Still, some of the names represented are really well known, according to their own PR:

Grammy-winning classic artists such as Dionne Warwick, Stevie Nicks, Journey, The Rolling Stones, Bryan Adams, Petula Clark, Bobby Rydell, Stevie Wonder, Glen Campbell, Phil Collins, Dion, Blondie, Tina Turner, Neil Diamond, Dolly Parton, Aerosmith, Lionel Richie, Cher, Anne Murray, Bon Jovi, Paul McCartney, Tom Jones, Reba McIntire, Kenny Rogers, Olivia Newton-John, Ringo Starr, Donna Summer, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Cyndi Lauper, ELO, Brian Wilson, U2, New Kids on the Block, Shania Twain, and yes, even Michael Jackson are part of the historical catalog of over 25,000 artists and 10 million songs the " NEWdies® " Radio Station has in store for fans and listeners who log on.

Anyone here think this will work? It’s been my experience that people want the hits and not the new near misses.

I think that it could work except for 2 things...it has to be programmed properly...by people who know the artists and their bodies of work inside out and backwards.  Are they still even working?  Burning out the same oldies yet again would be death-defyingly stupid and wrong.  THAT ship has sailed.  Music, even established golden Oldies, must be picked with ears...not eyes reading charts.  Many of the songs that 'worked' back in the day...don't cut it anymore.  BUT...lots of so-called mid-charters and great lp tracks DO.  [old payola has no influence now in 2017...or at least it shouldn't]

It would have been the thing to do back in the day when KEY 590 was spinning gold...when CHUM was copying them before they narrowed down their musical universe/noose to only 800 constantly repeating memories which grew ever-so old and subsequently burnt out, and when Q 107 did the same thing with old hits and lp tracks w/o recognizing that MANY of their core artists were still relevant. In ignoring that Q made them and themselves, for that matter, irrelevant.

The whole oldies thing has been misplayed from the get-go.  This WAS the way to go.  It's likely too late. [except as a feature]

So true, OC.  I was blessed to work with some of the best talent in the biz there -- but they weren't given anything to work with.
