This Can't Be True -- Can It???

As this is being typed the following is scrolling on the BNN  Bloomberg Business Channel crawler...

"Air Canada delayed or cancelled nearly 2,000 flights over long weekend."

I thought this was a typo but it is not

Why isn't this country awash in anger?

What kind of citizenry or society puts up with this kind of abuse being heaped upon it?

I am embarrassed.

Are you?

Absolutely pathetic

Remind me again who is in charge of this country

Might be more relevant to ask who's in charge of Air Canada.

Well, at least it's better than the CEO of United Airlines in the U.S. The carrier encountered endless delays and flight cancellations this holiday weekend, partly because of bad weather and partly because they simply didn't have enough people working. The exec. was scheduled to fly on one of his own flights, but like thousands of passengers, couldn't get on board.

So he hired a private jet and flew to his destination.

When the word got out, he quickly apologized, but you'll notice that he's where he's supposed to be. Many of the others can't say that. Can you say "oblivious?" Must be nice to have lots of money and no sense of how your customers (they call them "guests") are doing.

Oh ffs Fester. Air Canada has been privatized since 1989 and the government doesn't own a nickel of it anymore. It's largest shareholder is a U.S. company called Vanguard Group. You wanna complain about the airline's performance? Talk to them. Better yet, why not encourage the travelling public to fly on Air Transat, Westjet or Flair Airlines, all of which are active in Canada as well.

Had you bothered to read anything other than the BNN crawl, you would have noticed that severe thunderstorms over the eastern part of Canada, coupled with the massive cock-up of United Airlines (a code sharing partner of Air Canada who flies throughout the United States) were the main reasons for the delays in flight times.

NavCan and CBSA report they were fully staffed and their operations, which are the responsibility of the Government of Canada, were running smoothly over the long weekend.

The reason Canadians aren't "awash in anger" is that most of us are sensible enough not to attempt air travel on a long weekend in the summer and, if they do, they plan accordingly and anticipate delays when they occur.

Stop trying to make every single inconvenience you hear about during the day the fault of the current government.
