Almost all major radio and TV stations missed one of the biggest news stories in Toronto over this Canada Day weekend.
A Saturday night shooting rampage on Saturday night on the edge of Kensington Market -- one of the city's biggest shopping and tourist areas.
I live in the neighborhood and was stunned to run into a massive police presence on College Street at Augusta just west of Spadina.
It included the ETF (emergency task force, or SWAT team.
Up to ten Toronto cop vehicles, several ambulances and a bunch of TTC supervisor vehicles.
I made several phone calls to radio and TV stations and newspapers.
Not a peep.about it.
Finally this morning (Monday) I saw a CTV story about it.
Four people were shot and wounded Saturday night and no suspects were found -- meaning armed shooters are still on the loose.
Even more annoying about the lack of coverage.
CTV and hence CP 24 got the time of the shooting wrong saying it was Sunday night, not Saturday.
I listened randomly today to 1010 640 and 680 and so far have heard nothing about this event.
How can a major shooting rampage in the core of Toronto wounding four people apparently go unnoticed.?
It closed down College street for most of Sunday into early Monday morning.
sheesh!

Who is claiming "the news watch never stops"?
Anybody?
This is news, and it wasn't watched...at least not properly.

This is what happens when it's a holiday weekend at newsrooms where there have been endless cutbacks.
Did CityNews 680 have it?

I actually called them and the guy who answered said that was the first they had heard of it.
I heard nothing about it when I listened to them today.
