At Least One T.O. Stn. Going Live Monday Morning Of The Long Weekend

Because Canada Day, an official stat, fell on a Saturday this year, Monday is a day off in lieu for most. Especially for those in broadcasting, which is federally regulated. Many people, regardless of their occupations, are getting the "long weekend" extra day's holiday.

So I find it interesting that Greg Brady has decided to do a live morning show on AM640, which he confirmed on-air Friday, while John Moore and Co. are in full day "best of" mode over on CFRB.

I often wonder how these decisions are made and what the economics of them are. What makes one station go with regular programming while the other treats whatever listeners there are to "previously enjoyed" shows? I'm assuming they have to pay the crew behind the scenes overtime for working the stat, which can add up.

Also, is 640's morning program the only one that will be original on Monday or are they going back to rerolls, too, once it's over? You might think the afternoon show, if any, would be live, if only because of the rush home from cottage country and people needing traffic and weather updates, not to mention the company of a friendly present voice.

But good for Brady. Radio used to be a 24-hour-a-day affair, perhaps with the exception of Christmas. Those days, alas, are long over. But I know what I'll be tuning into Monday morning. And it won't be something I've heard before.

Alex Pierson said at the end of her Thursday show she would be back on Tuesday.

I noticed that CKTB, which in the past has gone live on every stat except Christmas and New Year's, is in reroll mode. Perhaps an effect of the Bell cuts?

Worth mentioning after listening for a few minutes is one weird thing - all of their bumper music - which introduces news, traffic, segments etc. on their morning show - is playing out in full with no one talking over it before the feature it's introducing is played.

Perhaps a software issue, but it's strange to hear the whole bed play out.

CHCH had a regular live morning show today, as did CBC News Channel. CTV's Your Morning and Global had repackaged programs with live news updates. CP24 was live at 7am but not the regular morning program, and City tv's Breakfast Television was a no show today.  City programmed two Hallmark style movies.

It's a People Not Knowing How to Use the Software problem.

They probably fired all the people who knew how to use it properly.

From what I can tell, there are no noon shows scheduled on either CTV Toronto or Global on Monday, although I suspect CBC will still simulcast their News Network hour at 12 PM.

What was billed as the 'John Oakley Show' today is un-listenable.  Between full renderings of 'Californication', and some droning song by Pearl Jam, it is nothing but throw-away lightweight dreck heard over the last many months, and best forgotten.  Just awful radio.

Same with CTV Kitchener I think there were no local updates during Your Morning. Also no 5PM news on CTV Kitchener there will be an half an hour news at 6, CTV London/Windsor had news on Sunday but it was a regional news done out of London with Sean Irvine. Also don't expect any news tonight on CTV London/Windsor but according to my TV guide there is a news at 11 scheduled but I will doubt that will be aired and e talk will take it's place.
