I'm not sure this has ever happened before - John Moore and Jerry Agar co-hosting a show together.
It happened on Thursday, as Moore was preparing for later night duty as co-moderator of yet another Toronto mayoral election. Because he's going to be up later than usual and has been prepping for it with some extra work, they gave him a break and he won't come on until 7:30 AM.
To take his place, they brought Agar in at 5 AM and he'll stay on the air once Moore joins him. There couldn't be two more philosophically different people to sit beside each other, so in that, at least, it could prove interesting. I'm just not sure why they didn't just give John the entire morning off, but that wasn't the decision.

A suggestion.....'read before you send'
Moore isn't preparing for later night duty as co-moderator of yet another Toronto mayoral election.
Johnny is preparing for later night duty as co-moderator of yet another Toronto mayoral election DEBATE.

Thanks for the heads-up RA as when I heard Agar on this morning, i was gone .. now I can go back to 1010 to have a listen : )) ..

Well, that's what I get for posting before I'm fully awake. Yes, it IS a debate - yet another one. The difference with this one is supposed to be a) it will be more rapid fire and they promise fewer talking-over-each-other moments than in the others (good luck with that!) and b) this one will include candidate Anthony Furey for the first time.
Personally, I can't wait for the day after the vote so we don't have to hear the same thing from all of them anymore!
By the way, it will also air on CP24, as well as on NT1010.

Agar definitely had the line of the day when he was telling those just tuning in why he and Moore were on at the same time, while promoing Mark Towhey doing his show. "We're just trying to prove who still has a job," he said.
After the past 24 hours at Bell, that was perfect.
By the way, Towhey must be exhausted. He hosted the evening show until 11 PM on Wednesday night and he's back in to do a 9 AM gig the next day. I'm guessing he'll be hosting part of it in his sleep.

One more revelation from the Odd Couple. Agar admitted he had to vote in an advance poll, because he won't be in Toronto on election day.
The reason?
He'll be in Ottawa, where he's being sued.
He didn't elaborate, but you can only imagine what that is all about.

Well, so much for not talking over each other in the debate. I've been watching it online - or trying to.
There's been nothing but constant interruptions in the early going and the hosts don't seem able to control the candidates. Very hard to follow anything. It's not really terribly informative if this is the only thing that goes on for 2 hours.
My suggestion: if the candidates won't abide by their allotted and agreed to time, then turn off their mics, so they can't be heard. As the saying goes, it's like herding cats. What a sad spectacle.
How can any of these people expect to be mayor of the biggest city in Canada when they won't follow the rules and shut-the-f-up?

I listened to most of the debate and learned almost nothing. They talked over each other, with the hosts constantly threatening to cut their mics and never actually doing it. Nice try, but it was unfortunately ultimately pretty pointless because of the constant cacophony.
By the way, this aired only on CFRB. What did the rest of the country hear on "Newstalk Tonight?" I tuned into CKTB for a moment (fortunately a Bell station that wasn't destroyed on Wednesday) and they were airing a reroll of a previous Jim Richards program.

I watched the entire 2 hour event on CP24 and it took a lot of effort to do so
Mitzie Hunter caught my eye a bit while Anthony Furey looked foolish at times to me
The two hosts - especially John Moore appeared weak and overwhelmed
Wonder if he has regrets about volunteering to be a part of it?

I really like John Moore & will continue to enjoy his morning radio show & interview specials .. but I do agree John is much more effective, informative & in-control on radio than when I've seen him on TV. I know it's shallow but John has a constant bemused little smirk & glossy eyed look that I find a bit visually off-putting.
None of the candidates are an overwhelming #1 for me .. Bailao & Bradford continue to be the candidates that irritate me the least, so I guess that's a quasi-plus.
I don't get Olivia Chow at all .. she continues to underwhelm & is literally last to me of the seven on stage tonight .. she's "nails on a chalkboard" to me.

Then you'll be very pleased to know that Agar is on vacation starting Friday. Not sure how long he's off or who's taking his place, but my guess is Mark Towhey.

I believe I heard Jerry say he'd be off for one week

AM640's Alex Pierson made extensive use of clips from Thursday's debate on CFRB. Have to admit I got a kick out of hearing John Moore's voice at one point admonishing the participants to stop interrupting each other.
I'm betting that's the first time the voice of CFRB's morning man ever appeared on 640's airwaves!
