A bit different from what you usually see here, but 60 Minutes did a 13-minute piece on Radio Free Europe, the old American government-sponsored broadcaster designed to bring uncensored news to areas of the world where media and truth are both tightly controlled. It's actually a repeat of an earlier segment, but it's the first time I've seen it.
It was quite amazing to see how it's morphed from radio to an Internet and TV service in the modern era. But at a time when news outlets are being squeezed by everything from ideology to outright oppression, it's refreshing to know it's still there - and being listened to by millions behind what's become the new Iron Curtain.

By the way, how many people remember the PSA below? This thing used to run constantly on American stations when I was a kid and the guy's intro of the Drifters' "On Broadway" has, for some reason, stayed with me all these years. Guess I wasn't the only one, because it's turned up on YouTube where it's garnered more than 10,000 page views and comments from those who recall that "On Broadway" moment.
