I don't know. I assumed CBC's French music network was 100% national.

Nope, the Conservative leader has said that defunding would only be for CBC TV and radio.  Radio Canada TV and radio would not be touched.  Both are popular in Quebec and messing with culture in that province would be fatal for the Tories. 

Ah, I see.

They can't actually do that though; for very good reasons the feds can only mess with overall funding and not how that funding is spent.

You might also notice other distinctions. Like not reporting Gordon Lightfoot's death. That was left for the 6 o'clock edition of Le Téléjournal Ontario. The very last story, of course.

That's odd, I thought La Presse gave fairly prominent copy to Lightfoot's passing.  And Radio Canada's website certainly had the story when Lightfoot passed.

I don't really know what percent of the $1.2 billion that Radio Canada gets.  I have read 30% and even 40%, but the sources weren't the best.

 However RC television has great ratings.  TV columnist Bill Brioux has pointed out, more than a few times RC has had the number one show in Canada and two or three others in the top ten.  Even more viewers than simsubed US programming on Global or CTV.  District 31 which is a drama on RC technically has been the highest rated show in Canada various times. And last years Bye Bye new years eve sendoff had 4.8 million viewers, and other shows like Infoman over 3 million.

Since they have better ratings than CBC English TV they reportedly bring in more revenue that the English network.
