Global has announced its summer schedule now that most shows are going on hiatus.
The network is bringing back Family Law, the legal drama starring Victor Garber. It returns on May 22nd.
Also back for another season – Departure, with Archie Panjabi as a safety investigator looking into the cause of fatal accidents. That one doesn’t air until August 7th, with former Will & Grace star and Canadian Eric McCormack joining the cast.
There are several other shows in the pipeline but I have to wonder if they should go ahead with this schedule. Now that Hollywood writers have gone on what may be a very prolonged strike, Global won’t have its usual line-up of new American shows to fall back on.
Maybe they should just go with repeats during the lesser-viewed summer months and save their new series for the fall. Otherwise, the cupboard may be bare by September and they won’t have much new material on their otherwise U.S.-heavy schedule.
But for now, it appears the network intends to stick to its warm weather plan.
