You may remember way back in 2017 when Evanov station Z103.5 was warned by the CRTC to start covering Orangeville instead of aiming at a Toronto audience.
The Commission renewed the licence for the station until 2030, but those severe reminders on why they were given the frequency in the first place have been emphasized once again. In an otherwise routine announcement of the renewal, the CRTC reminded the owners that:
--The licensee shall ensure that all station identification announcements broadcast on CIDC-FM Orangeville make specific reference to Orangeville, Ontario and do not refer exclusively to Toronto.
--The licensee shall ensure that CIDC-FM Orangeville provides, on a regular basis during each broadcast day, coverage of local news, sports, events and activities that take place in Orangeville and are of direct and particular relevance to Orangeville, and that do not relate exclusively to Toronto.
and
--The licensee shall ensure that CIDC-FM Orangeville provides, on a regular basis during each broadcast day, traffic and weather reports that are of direct and particular relevance to areas within the station’s authorized market, including Orangeville and that do not relate exclusively to Toronto.
Not sure if that's an indication they were flouting those conditions or it's just part of their COL, but it's interesting to me that it's being re-emphasized in this process. (It probably doesn't help that the studios are actually in Etobicoke.)
One other noteworthy item:
--The licensee is authorized to use a Subsidiary Communications Multiplex Operations (SCMO) channel for the purpose of distributing ethnic programming in the German language.
Why German? Is that a commonly spoken tongue in Orangeville? Has that always been there?
It may be long forgotten that one of the reasons the CRTC awarded the licence in the first place was because a tornado struck Orangeville in 1985 and there were no local radio stations that warned residents there adequately. So the Commission reassigned the 103.5 frequency from Guelph to Orangeville to create a station there.
No wonder the broadcast overlords are so concerned that they make themselves known to a more local audience and not try to claim they're serving The Big Smoke. Yet, I'm sure they can still solicit Toronto advertisers, because how much money is there to be made strictly from Orangeville businesses?

I listen to them from time to time and they sound like they are already doing the conditions listed. So you are right, more of a reminder. Officials ID's always say Orangeville, Dufferin County, traffic reports include hwy 10 and 9 to and from Orangeville. I assume any news/sports would be in the morning show, can't say I have ever heard news on Z103.5. I know I have heard them talking about the Orangeville Blues and Jazz Festival.
Some of the pressure is now off them a bit since the town also has FM 101 CKMO which has studios in downtown Orangeville and three other regional local stations with Mount Forest, Fergus and Shelburne.
Z103.5 traditionally has been fairly popular in the K/W area where they put in a good signal.

I forgot about this station until I drive by their studio near my in Etobicoke. I did hear the last time I ever listened "CIDC FM Orangeville"
