Some Amazing Songs Get Added To The Ntl. Recording Preservation Board

Every year, the U.S. Library of Congress adds about 25 songs to something called the National Recording Registry. It's a symbolic way of enshrining classic compositions into history and honoruring the work. And this year's choices are as varied as they are spectacular.

They range from a 1907 release of the very first Mariachi Band ever put on record to the Four Seasons' "Sherry" and Led Zepplin's "Stairway To Heaven." Other songs you'd know - "What The World Needs Now Is Love" by Jackie DeShannon, Bobbie Gentry's "Ode To Billie Joe", the #1 song of 1967, and John Lennon's iconic "Imagine."

The linked page lists them all, along with a 7 minute-plus compendium of all of this year's inductees. Hard to find a bad tune in any of them.
