The TV Event We Never Got To See 53 Years Ago Today

The listing below appeared in TV Guide on April 11, 1970 - exactly 53 years ago. What strikes me is what they'd been planning to show the public - and how it went very wrong long before "the greatest show not on Earth" could take place. How chilling the phrase they use, "if it's a textbook flight..." seems now. This one made them rewrite those textbooks.

I wonder if Ron Howard was watching...

Apollo 13, what a brilliant cast. If there is such a thing as a perfect movie that stands the test of time, Ron Howard's flick is a first class example. One of those movies that if you come across it on tv while channel surfing you've got to watch it to the end.

Too right.
Apollo 13 is one of those rare movies based on realty because even though you know exactly what happened you are still on the edge of your seat.
You are right, the casting and the story telling by Ron Howard et al was superb.
I once saw an interview with NASA engineer Chris Kraft who attested to the authenticity of the movie.
Usually major insiders to historical events poo poo the movie as taking liberties and stretching reality
Kraft did not do that.
