For many decades, CBS' 60 Minutes has been a fixture in Canadian homes

Then, on this past Sunday evening, they demonstrated that after all these years, the longest-running primetime program has  missed a step.

From this morning's Toronto Star...

I watched that particular interview and it was decidedly bizarre, especially when the crazy Congresswoman accused all Democrats of being pedophiles. She's certifiably nuts as far as I can tell but what's really frightening is that enough people agreed with her to put her into office!

At one point, she makes such an outrageous statement, that Lesley Stahl stops in the middle of the interview, gives a big sigh and rolls her eyes on camera, expressing her disgust better than any words could ever say. It was a remarkable moment.

If you think you can stand it, and want to see the segment, it's online here.

And by the way, the Nielsen ratings say this was the second lowest rated episode of 60 Minutes of the year. So that tells you that people tuned out in droves. If the producers thought that featuring a nutcase politician would attract eyeballs, they badly miscalculated.

Marjorie Taylor Greene interview scores second worst night of ratings for 60 Minutes this season

Re: For many decades, CBS' 60 Minutes has been a fixture in Canadian homes

60 Minutes is an older school journalism program.  They usually aren't as confrontational in interviews, compared to other news magazine and talk shows.  Lesley Stahl did question Marjorie Taylor Greene throughout the interview on her outlandish positions and let her answer.  She maybe had one further question on the subject and moved on.  Is that missing the mark?  Or maybe 60 Minutes believes in letting the answers from MTG speak for themselves and the viewer will decide what kind of person and politician Marjorie is.  Looks like many viewers did decide with the lower rating last Sunday.

W5 has 60 Minutes beat by a couple of years since CTV's news magazine had it's debut in 1966.  Because of the mess that football makes of the Sunday CBS schedules and Global having to wait until the games finish, 60 Minutes rarely makes it in the top 30 shows in Canada.  Global doesn't have the big lead in from football like CBS.  And the Sunday football games especially regular season rate considerably lower in Canada.
