The very symbol of British broadcasting has been hit with a huge walkout, as some 1,000 journalists walked off the job to protest cuts to local radio.

For now, the strike is only scheduled to last for 24 hours and should take most of the Beeb's newscasts and other live shows with it.  

It's the first major job action since 2010, and management admits it's going to be a "difficult day."
