It seems stunning in its outright silliness. But the BBC has asked its on air staff to look less "presentable" and more "dirty and sweaty" on camera for its made-over 24-hour news channel as way to appeal to a younger demo.
"Naja Nielsen, BBC News’ Director of Digital, told staff last week that the more rugged “sweaty and dirty” look certain journalists adopt when away from the studio can be more trustworthy."
Honestly, you can't make this stuff up.

This is kind of funny. The opposite happened with CBS62 in Detroit with their newscasts that had their big debut a few weeks back. Initially the male news readers, sports and weather presenters were not wearing ties. Apparently viewers didn't like this casual approach and one of the weather people was roundly criticized for wearing a jacket and a golf shirt. Anyway the hosts are now wearing ties.
