CBC's Ken Haslam's Final Sign Off
Just noticed this - Ken Haslam, a long time CBC newsman and host, and a familiar voice to many, died last month. No indication of the cause or his age, but he spent decades at the Corp. not only reading news but also hosting the long running "Ideas" program, that's still on the air today.
His obit says he was one of those staffers colleagues came to to learn the proper pronunciation of various names and words, something the CBC remains a stickler about to this day. Every newsroom I've ever been in has one of those, and they're an invaluable resource. Another one of the old style radio types gone.

Ken was, for many years, the CBC's Language God.
He monitored scripts and programs and wrote some of the most amazing and acerbic critiques when he heard errors in pronunciation, grammar and other reading errors.
I used a lot of his material when I was teaching presentation skills at Seneca back in the 80s and 90s.
