January 20th Is National Disc Jockey Day

These days, it's come to mean someone who spins and mixes records in clubs. But National Disc Jockey Day was really created to honour the memory of the original rock jock, Alan "Moondog" Freed, who passed away on this day in 1965.

So to anyone who's ever cued up a record, spun a disc or done an intro into a hot mic, this one is for you!

How do you celebrate?

If you're on-air, do an intro and hit the post.

If you're a listener, turn up the volume.

And if you're in management, fire as many people as you can.

There! That should do it!

Last night on 1010 Jim Richards celebrated National Disc Jockey Day by attempting to hit the posts on a handful of songs. I found it entertaining as he didn’t know which songs he was going to intro and did not do too badly. Then a commercial aired and the announcer walked all over the sung post at the end, cosmic.

Interestingly, he was supposed to have a competitor on and they would do the challenge together. But Richards announced his scheduled guest backed out at the last minute, which left him none too pleased. So he did the segment alone.

The guy who didn't show? None other than Tarzan Dan, who openly stated on his final show on Q107 Calgary that he was looking for work. Guess he decided he didn't need the exposure.
