The annual campaign on all their radio and TV stations is coming up on Jan. 25th, but this year, they've decided to abandon the "hashtag-five cents" donation that was the rule ever since this thing began. Instead, Bell intends to offer a $10 million bounty to "Canadian mental health initiatives," whatever that means.
The company certainly hopes you'll forget about the past two years. "Let's Talk" became more like "Let's Squawk" after the firing of CTV anchor Lisa LaFlamme in 2022 and a mass layoff shortly after the campaign the year prior led to terrible publicity for the telco and broadcasting giant. Both caused the company to take hits in the press and online. Will anything happen this time to cause more "Talk?" "Let's" see.
Bell to drop five-cent 'Let's Talk' pledge in favour of $10M donation

I looked it up and that’s $2 million more than last year’s record breaking total.
I guess that’s the cost to Bell Media to avoid seeing Lisa Laflamme articles and sketchy dismissal stories on all of its social media accounts for 24 hours straight.

Clearly, Bell did this to avoid the embarrassment of seeing their donation numbers plummet because of their recent stupidity and continued horrid treatment of their employees and customers...

The linked article concludes with this:
"The company said it is encouraging Canadians to use the #BellLetsTalk hashtag to share examples of what they are individually doing to improve mental health for themselves and others."
It will be interesting to see if anybody actually does that now that there's nothing on the line.

Just saw the first television ad for this year's campaign, it's a good kernel of an idea but without deft development, you can't have the subject who is in the middle of an axiety attack and needing support doing double duty trying to pass along dry statistics and do what a voiceover normally accomplishes.
Can't wait until it's two days after January 25th.
