How Could This Not Be A Story On Newscasts Or Talk Shows?

This is sort of tongue-in-cheek, and I find it hard to believe it's real. But if it is, it would make a great topic on talk radio. It's a story out of Nigeria (no princes involved!) about a group trying to stop people from killing those accused of being witches. And yes, you read that right. Apparently there are some places in that country where this is a thing.

And you thought the Salem trials ended in the late 1690s.

I'm not sure I thought I would ever read anything like this, but it's apparently serious. And even potentially deadly.

"Alleged witches are innocent and should not be attacked, killed or suffered in any way as widely believed and practiced in various places. Members of the public should resist all witch hunters and witch persecutors."

Wow. Who knew this was still going on anywhere in the world?

Also in Nigeria there are some people who believe albinos are evil and they attack and even kill them.
My father was in Nigeria during the Second World War and he said the "ju ju" or black magic was very much around.
He was in the British army medical corps and he said he even saw one African soldier die because a ju ju curse had been put on him.
My dad said he examined the man medically and there was nothing he could find that was making him sick, and he just died.

The last witch trials in the Channel Islands (between France and England) were conducted about a hundred years ago. Not exactly a primitive society.

I'm guessing reruns of "Bewitched" are not exactly a popular choice in the country.
