Re: Here's How They Get Those Incredible Close-Up On Ice Shots On TSN

Over the past year or so both Sportsnet and TSN have been using a mini steady cam to good effect.    Steady cams have been around for ages and were heavy and bulky, but the two sports networks are using a model no larger than a Canon camera that only weighs a few pounds.

I saw one in operation at a Jays game last year and the camera operator would run into the dugout at the end of an inning with the fielders.  It looked really good on television and no jiggling when running on the field with the players and you could hear the talking into the dugout. After a run the shot was right with whoever got to home plate and followed into the dugout.

TSN has been using the same equipment with the Raptors/CFL and truck down the court occasionally with the play behind the floor row of seats or sideline. They shoot right on the field or court in between plays  even inside the scrum.  That takes a lot of skill, agility and understanding of the game to do this well. Also takes cooperation from the leagues and teams.
