21 Guests/Cast Members Who Were Banned From NBC's Saturday Night Live

I recall some of them, others I'd never heard of before. But they were all declared persona non grata for a host - with an accent on the "Host" - for a variety of different reasons. Among them: Frank Zappa, Sinead O'Connor, Norm MacDonald and David Bowie.

Fear's performance always tickles me. The crowd of punks they invited were mostly from Washington DC, and included a young Ian MacKaye (who allegedly was the one shouting "New York sucks").

Seriously, whoever wrote this list had no idea that Sinead O'Connor was a woman?  The writer says he or him 5 times before the last two paragraphs where they correctly say 'she'.

Re: 21 Guests/Cast Members Who Were Banned From NBC's Saturday Night Live

I don't know if if is entirely accurate to say that Norm MacDonald was banned from SNL.

The story goes that Don Ohlmeyer "fired" or had Norm removed from writing/hosting the Weekend Update satirical news sketch. This would have been around Christmas 1998...  Don Ohlmeyer was taking exception to Norm's seemingly constant skewering of O.J. Simpson, and his subsequent double murder trial for the deaths of his former wife Jessica and her friend Ron Goldman.  Ohlmeyer at this point was the NBC West Coast VP or President of Entertainment Programming and SNL was under his command. MacDonald was to finish his contract as a sketch player on the show, just not writing or hosting WU.

Previously, Ohlmeyer was the Producer for ABC's  Monday Night Football.  He had developed a close working relationship with OJ Simpson, when Simpson ended his NFL playing career and joined the MNF broadcast team with Howard Cosell and Frank Gifford and Don Meredith.

Here is an interview with Norm MacDonald appearing on Late Night with David Letterman...  hilarious...
