Here's the announcement that many heard eight decades ago on their radios, then the only electronic communication device in many homes. I suppose this would be akin to our reaction to the 911 attacks in 2001 for shock and surprise.  



And shades of CNN during the Gulf War! Here's the only known surviving on-the-spot news report from Hawaii as the attack was happening. It's amazing when the newsman tells listeners, "This is no joke." And then, towards the end, when an operator interrupts the report to ask the guy to release the line for an "emergency call." Pretty incredible.
