Draft Kings ads

During Hockey Night in Canada, specifically during the Canucks game, I notice commercials for Draft Kings, which is specially available in Ontario.

I am in Vancouver watching the game on either Sportsnet Pacific or CBUT, CBC Vancouver. Why are there ads for an Ontario audience airing in BC? This isn’t a one time thing either, this has been happening on Sportsnet, CBC and TSN for the past few months now.

I work in the digital advertising business and targeting ads to all of Canada for a service available only in one province is a severe infraction and subject to disciplinary action. No one in their right mind would create ads for White Spot or Save-on-Foods and air them in Ontario during a Leafs game.

End rant.

Re: Draft Kings ads

I agree.
That's the thing bang on. Who paid for what? I doubt Draft Kings had to pay for anything more than the airings in Ontario.
Sobey's & Safeway are the same company now, so, unless they literally air a "Shop at Sobey's & Safeway" ad, advertising the same prices for Ontario & BC, there is no logic in advertising the wrong grocery store in the wrong market.

Also, during the Ontario provincial election, Doug Ford’s PC party ran ads on CBC News Network, nationally.

Re: Draft Kings ads

The situation does happen the other way as well. For years I've seen ads for companies like Save-on-Foods and Safeway during CFL games on TSN4 when the game involves at least one West division club.
