Cdn. Networks Scramble As U.S. Networks Cover Election Next Tuesday

It's a dog's breakfast in primetime on some Canadian stations next Tuesday, as the U.S. networks go wall-to-wall on midterm election coverage.

Global, which normally simulcasts all three hours of the various flavours of CBS' "FBI" series, as well as "New Amsterdam," will substitute a Fast & Furious movie for the entire night. (There is a weird anomaly here in that a new "FBI" will air Sunday night, because CBS has an additional original episode, after it showed a pulled edition about a school shooting from last season the previous week.)

City TV, which would otherwise be duplicating ABC's "Bachelor In Paradise," has opted for a movie of its own, the Christmas themed "Toying With The Holidays."

Only CTV is spared, since Fox isn't interrupting its regular schedule for a news special, but even then it's not the normal line-up. Viewers will see simulcasts of new episodes of "The Resident" and "Lego Masters," although neither usually air on the network Tuesdays. Its NBC simulcast of "La Brea" and ABC's "The Rookie: Feds" returns the following week.

The CW is also sticking with its regular sked, but that's not on any of the over-the-air networks here.

CBC doesn't show American programming, so its night stays as is.

Interestingly, the outcome of this American election is especially pivotal, so the best show on TV that night may well be the results coverage - and not the usual TV fare. If nothing else, the musical chairs just shows how dependent Canadian networks are on U.S. programming and what happens when it goes missing for the night.

Re: Cdn. Networks Scramble As U.S. Networks Cover Election Next Tuesday

The Canadian networks have known about the mid terms for years.  So I doubt that they are scrambling to fill any programming.  A couple of the networks running a movie instead of the regular schedule happened a fair bit during COVID  when simsub was not as common. Watch the movies have about the same numbers as regular programming.  But since Numeris ratings are a big secret now, guess we won't know...
