David Suzuki Retiring From CBC's "Nature Of Things" After 44 Years

I have to confess I didn't even know he was still fronting this show, he's been so busy being a somewhat polarizing spokesperson against climate change. But love him or hate him, 44 years as host of the same show is a remarkable accomplishment and this season will be Suzuki's last fronting the long running program.

The Nature of Things has actually been on CBC for an incredible 62 years but this season will be the scientist's final term at its helm.

Suzuki insists he's leaving the show but not the public eye and will continue his climate change activism at the age of 86.

David Suzuki is retiring from The Nature of Things to focus on activism and calling out 'BS'

Re: David Suzuki Retiring From CBC's "Nature Of Things" After 44 Years

I always liked David Suzuki and the consistently interesting Nature of Things.  He was the smartest guy in the room but never acted like it.  Ian Hanomansing did a good interview with him last evening on The National.

Suzuki said that being a senior he is into the most important years of his life.  What a great attitude and unique comment!  He was encouraging seniors to speak up and not be afraid to share your thoughts.  Seniors have the knowledge of life and experience, so don't waste it.  Talk about finishing an interview on a positive and thoughtful tone.

The 62nd season launch of CBC's The Nature Of Things is on Jan 6, 2023.  The Nature of Things will continue after Suzuki retires in the spring with a new host for season 63.

Re: David Suzuki Retiring From CBC's "Nature Of Things" After 44 Years

The CBC has confirmed his final show will air April 7th.

From the network:

"In his final episode, he explores new ways of expressing his ideas, meets up with some neighbours, shows us how global problems are being expressed in his own backyard, and attempts to reconcile the two great influences in his life: science and Indigenous culture."

He's gone but the show will go on - his daughter has become one of the permanent new co-hosts.

Leaving a show for your kid. I guess that, too, is the Nature of Things!
