New Free Canadian Streaming Service Begins Jan. 1, 2023

There are a ton of free streaming services in existence - TubiTV, Pluto, Freeview, Plex and more. They all have one thing in common - they're all based in the U.S. and not all of them are fully available in Canada.

That will change in the new year with the official launch of something called Join TV, a made-in Canada FAST (Free Ad Supported Television) service that promises a wide array of gratis programming. So what can you expect? Specifics are pretty vague at the moment, but their press release promises this:

"...a dedicated Fashion Channel, Travel Channel, Music Channel, Documentary Channel, Animation Channel, Crypto News Channel, World Sports Channel, Indigenous Peoples Channel, LGBTQ2S+ Channel and a top Trending Channel showcasing the best shows, films, and programming from around the world.

"The network also plans to begin producing new shows and programming for additional channels being launched in the months following the official JOIN TV Network launch."

JOIN, by the way, stands for Just One Incredible Network. That promise remains to be seen and you'll get the chance to decide if they keep it when 2023 births not only a new year but a new series of online channels.

Still, the network hasn't exactly distinguished itself with its initial YouTube video - unless it's just my computer, I can't hear any sound on the thing and I can't believe they deliberately released a silent promo. You can watch it (but maybe not hear it) below.

It's OTA commercial TV, redux, except it's sans antenna and rotor, and will be crystal clear on all channels.

Everything old is new again.
