Bob McCord RIP

Don’t have a lot of details, at the moment. Got an Email from Don Kay in Edmonton with this bad news. He
was shocked to hear of Bob’s unexpected passing.
I can tell you that he died in his sleep, due to heart complications.
Bob McCord was easily one of the most talented personalities I had the pleasure of working with.
Hell of a guy, too.
CHED Edmonton is where he really made a name for himself in the mid 1960s, also worked for a bit
at KLIF Dallas, then back for a number of years at CHED, later founder & owner CISN-FM Edmonton 1982-88; President CISN 1988. Retired in California.

Re: Bob McCord RIP

Sad to hear about Bob McCord's death from Mike Marshall.  I never worked with Bob but did meet him when I was a kid and Bob was on air at CKLC Kingston early in his career.  He even gave me a ride home in his Volkswagen.  He was a great guy then and from what Mike says, remained so throughout his career.

Re: Bob McCord RIP

Believe Bob went from Kingston, Doug, to WONE Dayton, Ohio, then to Edmonton, where we both brought
early ‘60s GM convertibles with us. A bit frigid on a frosty Alberta morn.

Re: Bob McCord RIP

Thanks to Bruce Atchison, Bob's last show on 630 CHED Edmonton is posted here - https://www.radiowest.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=29838

Bob had two significant eras of influence on listeners and future radio broadcasters, including the now retired Bruce Bowie, Ed Bain of Victoria's 100.3 the Q! and Chris Scheetz of CISN FM, during his time in Edmonton radio.

One where he was pulling a near 50 share in weekday afternoons from 3 to 6 pm in the early to mid-'70s on CHED while playing Top 40 hits and a second as not only the founder of Country music station CISN FM but also as its first morning show host, leading it to one of the most successful launches in Canadian radio.  https://radiowest.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?p=12863236

For a time in the mid-'60s CHED's on air lineup saw former CHAM Hamilton GM Don Kay on from 1 to 4 pm, followed by Mike Marshall hosting from 4 to 8 pm, and Bob McCord from 8 to 12 Midnight.  All of them very talented gentlemen.

Rest in peace, Bob.

Cam Tait of the Edmonton Sun posted a memorial tribute to Bob - https://edmontonsun.com/opinion/columnists/tait-fond-memories-of-legendary-radio-man-bob-mccord-dead-at-82

The RadioWest archives has a copy of a "Drake" style show intro, voiced by then CKLG Vancouver PD Frank Callaghan, from Bob's time hosting afternoon drive at 630 CHED - https://soundcloud.com/westernbroadcasters/630-ched-edmonton-bob-mccord-show-intro
