Widespread cuts under Bell Media head Wade Oosterman have resulted in a stronger bottom line, but sources tell the Star it has provoked an internal staffing crisis that could threaten the media company’s future.

Most of the people I know won’t even apply for jobs with Bell because they know the next step is the unemployment line even if they excel at their job.

So then, just use Bell as a stepping stone.

That works if you happen to find an opening, apply and then get hired before Bell gasses you. Why not just apply from your current job and skip the dangerous middle step? SC with Jay and Dan was one of the most popular shows on TSN and by all acounts made lots of money, and Dan was blown out, ruining the entire point of the show, which was the banter, not the sports highlights. If making the company truckloads of money on a flagship show can't save you, then no one is safe. They don't care about employees, customers or any business strategy beyond the next shareholder meeting. If Bell did a remake of the Odd Couple they'd only have one guy on it and brag to the shareholders about how much money they saved.

Actually, I think of Bell CEO Mirko Bibic and eventually outgoing CRTC chair Ian Scott as The Odd Couple. But unlike the show, there's nothing funny about this pairing.

A perfect summation of the situation.
