Former Politician and Radio Host Bill Murdoch Passes Away

Bill Murdoch died earlier this week at the age of 77.  Murdoch had a long career in politics on the provincial and local levels serving the people of Grey and Bruce.  Later he hosted an open line show and Rock and Talk with Murdoch on CFOS Owen Sound.   More from Bayshore Broadcasting...https://www.bayshorebroadcasting.ca/2022/08/16/152107/

Murdoch and I were friends back in high school. But after that we went in opposite directions. Me, a working class socialist and Bill an anti-working class conservative. Can't exactly say his passing was bad news for me.

I knew Bill as well.  Disagree though with your assessment. Socialist he obviously was not, but he was never anti-working class.  It is possible to be conservative and still support the working class and Bill would have been that. Doesn't mean that you always get what you want, no group ever does, but Murdoch was not afraid to disagree with his own party.

I worked with a news person when I was with CKNX, and this individual always told me that he was a supporter of the NDP.  However when the provincial elections came around, he always voted conservative and for Bill.  He covered Murdoch for years and said that Bill, regardless of his flaws, did always work for the people of Grey/Bruce/Owen Sound.  And when he got into radio and hosted the Open Line two or three days a week, he didn't change at all and would be critical of all parties or politicians if he thought they weren't doing the job.

Well, one shouldn't speak ill of the dead, so I'd better stay out of this conversation.
