Weird Al Yankovic Biopic Coming - & It Should Stream For Free

I have no idea what this newly announced biography of the legendary Weird Al Yankovic will be like, but because it's on the Roku Channel, it will likely end up being free on the streaming service, whenever it's finished. And you don't have to be Harry Potter to know who will play the eccentric musician. Although it might help.

Hopefully, it will be handled Like A Surgeon and you can Eat It up when it's done.

Much Music did something like this about 25 years ago.  Al was pretty popular in the 80's and 90's.

The Al Music specials on Much Music were really well done and funny. Really shows how the station has changed in 20 years with Much running strip sitcoms and reality shows all day long.  No music programming, no on air staff and really, along with MTV, their schedules are filled with programming you can get on other channels.

Bell did relaunch the network on TikTok last summer and was to include original programming and VJ's.  I wonder if the young music lovers today are watching it at all?  None of the programming is run on the television channel however.

Back in my younger days, this was TIC TOC.

They've now revealed the date for the highly anticipated biopic. It will stream on the Roku Channel - available free online - starting Nov. 4th.

One interesting bit of casting - Rainn Wilson, from the American version of "The Office," will be playing radio's Dr. Demento, who played a big part in launching Weird Al's career.

It looks like fun and I'm hopeful it will be available in Canada without a VPN.

Those who really want to see this may not have to wait until November.

Re: Weird Al Yankovic Biopic Coming - & It Should Stream For Free

Any movie that features well known actors playing radio legends Dr. Demento and Wolfman Jack can't be all bad. And as this film unspools at the Toronto International Film Festival, the early reviews are pretty good.

"[Weird Al] ascends after making a connection to Dr. Demento (Rainn Wilson), the absurdist neo-carny wizard of an L.A radio personality who’s the first to play his songs. At a pool party at Dr. Demento’s house, he proves himself to the world.

"The movie is full of juicy cameos — fun celebrities played, in certain cases, by fun actors — and this terrific scene is an orgy of them. Look, it’s Pee-wee Herman! It’s Frank Zappa and Divine! It’s Conan O’Brien as Andy Warhol! And it’s John Deacon, the bass player from Queen (who, to his dismay, no one recognizes), who inspires the growly hipster DJ Wolfman Jack, played by Jack Black, to lay down a challenge to Al: If he’s so great, can he make up a song parody on the spot? Under pressure, in front of everyone, he free-styles “Another One Rides the Bus.”

It debuts free online over the Roku Channel (with a VPN set to the U.S.) in November.
