Paul Beeston ruled it out before leaving and Shapiro confirmed that decision when he arrived in 2015.
The main issue is a lack of any drainage system under the playing surface. Also, newer US stadiums with movable roofs have not had much success maintaining the grass fields they originally installed. Keeping the grass healthy with the roofs closed was apparently a bigger challenge than predicted. Both Texas and Arizona have since removed the grass and installed an artificial product.

Lots of video of the proposed changes during the telecast tonight. The renos look impressive. Glad that they aren't tearing down the dome.

I hope they give it a "retro" look.

According to Bill Brioux, Friday night's Jays-Tigers game is only available on Apple TV+. But in this case, it's free and anyone catch watch it.
Programming reminder: see the streaking Blue Jays tonight ONLY on AppleTV+

I was thinking Camden Yards, or PNC Park.

Sounds like most of the renos will be inside of the stadium and not so much the look of the actual building. I guess they could make the building more retro if they put up large pillars on the stadium, for sort of a classic look. All of the video I have seen of the renos have been inside, and look pretty good. Wonder if they will be able to stay on budget? Since it is private money, I bet they will or very close. Cost seem to balloon more when public money is involved. So Rogers is spending $300 million on renovations. Can you imagine how their radio operations across Canada would improve if they spent maybe $15 or $20 million in new money, and put it into staff and programming? They have the money, but like Bell and Corus are putting the cash in other places.

Little known fact: there are two 72-inch water mains beneath the playing surface. If one of those ever breaks, within minutes we will have the world's largest soup bowl.
