What's in a name? Why the voice of the Blue Jays won't say 'Indians'

This has been the subject of much radio talk show chatter all day. Surprised it hasn't been posted here yet.

Why the voice of the Blue Jays won't say 'Indians' during playoffs

I love Mr. Howarth's work and I think it's very admirable of him to take this approach.

Anyone who's a regular fan of baseball probably wouldn't even notice his omission of the teams' names. However, someone who's a new fan to the sport and not familiar with the various teams might notice.

I never/ever use their so-called team 'name'.  I only refer to them as Cleveland.  Period.  I don't call the Washington DC football team by any name other than Washington.  THAT moniker is even worse.  Indefenceable.

I know First Nations people.  I have never heard one refer to himself or herself or to the collective as an Indian or Indians.

It's been a long, Long, L O N G time since Buffy Sainte Marie wrote 'He's an Indian Cowboy In The Rodeo.'  'No No Keshagesh'

No...it's simply allowing others to enjoy what I want for myself.

Dignity.

Lemme think...

INDIANS...while I don't have a problem with the name per se, it's about time Chief Wahoo hit the showers.
BRAVES...what's wrong with being brave?
CHIEFS...who doesn't want to be the boss?
BLACKHAWKS...a strong, sturdy name that instills fear. Especially to a Leafs follower.
VIKINGS...no complaints I've heard.
ROYALS...reminds me of my commoner status, needs a change.

I'm all for Jerry Howarth's decision, it's his to make and has had zero detriment to his broadcast. I'm seeing other broadcasters jump on board which can come off as lame and insincere. What I do find interesting is Jerry's been doing this since 1992; yet this seems to be the first time it's been brought to the public's attention.
