Sony Changed The World On July 1, 1979

Portable tunes and best of all, headphones so you could get lost in the music and keep the world at a distance, even if the darn thing burned through batteries at a ridiculous rate and sometimes ate up a favorite mix tape.

I have and still use four different Walkman radios.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

It's nice to see metal buttons.
The cheaper plastic buttons came out later, and after that came along the even cheaper model that had no rewind button.
Just a fast forward to go with the stop/eject and play button.

I had waaaaay too many of these over the years, but they got so much use, they kept breaking and I always had to get a new one.

Re: Sony Changed The World On July 1, 1979

I love seeing all the different editions. And I loved the Walkman with metal body and buttons that came in either metallic pink or blue, also paying extra for the mega bass version.

After reading a couple of comments it occurred to me, a lot of us continuously carried around a Walkman for years and years, maybe that's why  always having a cellphone in hand feels natural and almost comforting...
