More HD Radio in Toronto.

CBC 99.1 HD2 now with CBC Music (10 sec delay?)
CIND 88.1 HD3 now with "North by North East" (NXNE) very alternative music...

Only CBC would simulcast their 2nd FM on their main FM HD-2. Bizarre.

I would assume it's either a limitation of their current analog fm transmitter used for CBC Music 94.1, or they are simply using the equipment already in place because it would cost them next to nothing to add HD2 at this point at 99.1.   Down the road, they will likely add HD to 94.1, but this gets them on the platform.

As for the delay, HD requires some extra equipment added and synced by GPS TIME to keep the analog and digital signals alined.   The analog is actually delayed on stations with HD to match to ensure the analog to digital feed are synced to avoid jumps when it flips between.    This is not required on HD2, so I'm not surprised they didn't bother adding it to the analog that is not on the same frequency.

99.1 coupled with 94.1 HD-2 would be pretty neat.   Time for the other stations to get on board!  But, this isnt really urgent or popular enough yet.

Re: More HD Radio in Toronto.

CBC should consider offering CBC Radio 3 on HD and leave XM. After all, the public broadcaster should offer free services.

So, is this the same system and technology being used in the US?

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.
