One of Calgary's legendary radio stations turns 100 today. CFCN radio launched on May 18, 1922. The station is still on the air and known as Funny 1060 and the call letters officially now are CKMX.
Here is a montage of CFCN jingles when they were a music station, courtesy of RadioWest.ca, radiofan and Albertaboy4life.

So I take it that as Funny 1060, there will be absolutely no mention of the anniversary since it's essentially a computer running the place and nothing else? What a shame that stations ignore their own history. Especially one that was as important as CFCN once was in that market. A hundred years should be a big milestone. Sad that it's not considered one anymore.

I wonder if there was any press on this, or feature on CTV Calgary?

Generally when stations make dramatic format changes, listeners don't associate them as the history of a single station progressing. What's 100 years old? Funny 1060? Most won't know the meaning of CFCN radio. It would be like celebrating the 100th anniversary of a Starbucks because the building they're in is 100 years old.

Thank you, RadioActive and paterson1.
Long-time lurker, first-time poster . . .
Following up on the earlier 100th anniversary tribute for CFAC Radio Calgary ( ), CKMX Radio (formerly CFCN) Calgary's has also been posted -
Today, 960 CFAC is a Rogers Sportsnet station while 1060 CKMX is a Bell Funny branded station.
It's nice to be here and I appreciate the approval to join.

Great to have you onboard! I know there was great radio being made out west, in places like Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton and the rest in the 60s, 70s and beyond. But most of us in the east had no way of ever hearing it. It will be fun to have your perspective on what you see going on over there and the radio you grew up listening to.
