CFPL-TV London Seeking News Anchor

I'm not all that familiar with CFPL-TV or the London market, but there's an opening there for a new TV anchor. Did anyone leave or are they adding a position? Even in a smaller market, these kind of jobs don't come up often.

A dyslexic TV anchor? Now THAT I'd have to see!

CTV doesn't have bio pages of news staff anymore, so you can't even check who's leaving.

It doesn't always work this way, but it's a good stepping stone to bigger markets, including Toronto. Both Lyndsey Morrison and Jessica Smith, who do the weather on CFTO (with Morrison still on mat leave) came from CKCO in Kitchener.

Sacha Long the 6/11pm anchor announced earlier this month that she would be leaving CFPL / CTV2 London to spend more time with her children before they get too old.  I believe her last day is April 28th or 29th.

And of course Lisa Laflamme and former Canada AM weatherman and sports reporter Jeff Hutchinson also from CKCO.  According to her bio from CTV London, Sacha Long has been with the station since 2018 starting as their weekend anchor and took over weekday evenings in 2019. Before London she was a reporter with the Windsor CTV station.  CTV London (CFPL) put out a reasonably good news product but like other CTV 2 stations don't have any noon hour newscasts.

Perhaps the best-known alumnus from CFPL in recent decades is Eric Sorensen, who anchored from 1981-84 and has been a correspondent and occasional fill-in anchor with Global National for about 15 years now.

Possibly the only online footage of him from his CFPL days is from this YouTube clip from 1984:

That clip also includes one reporter who is still there today, Nick Paparella.

More recently they’ve had a reporter go on to a career in a large US market, though not far away - Priya Mann now reports for WDIV in Detroit.

Re: CFPL-TV London Seeking News Anchor

Watched tonight's CTV London news at 6 it was an emotional ending for Sacha Long, her family and the CTV London news team. I remember her reports from Windsor when it aired on CTV London a couple of times in the past. So Monday we will have to see who is the new anchor or they will have a rotation of anchors? We will have to see.

Re: CFPL-TV London Seeking News Anchor

Reta Ismail has been announced as the new news anchor at CFPL-TV

She's been in London since 2015 after stops at CityNews and CKTB

Reta is a grad of Mohawk College and is a native of Baghdad Iraq.

Her family fled Iraq in 1990 and spent 3 years in Greece as refugees.

Her family was then sponsored to come to Canada.

Great success story
