Randy Bachman has done it (and is still at it.)
Kim Mitchell spent years on Q-107.
And now another musician is throwing his hat into the radio ring, although he's hardly a household name. Broadcast Dialogue reports that Cone McCaslin of SUM 41 is doing a weekly show for 94.9 The Rock in Oshawa. "Cone's Cave" will air Sunday nights and will feature a mix of heavy metal, garage rock and punk. It starts April 17th.
SUM 41’s Cone McCaslin to host weekly radio show on 94.9 The Rock
Let's not overlook Robbie Lane, who has been doing it even w/o a Disciple in AM 740's studio

We have a few examples across the lake - Scott Regan, the mid-morning "Open Tunings" host at WRUR 88.5, is part of the local band Watkins and the Rapiers here in Rochester, and WXXI-FM 91.5 has several very talented classical musicians as fill-in hosts, including the singer Kearstin Piper Brown.
