Johnston also served as ND for CHML for many years. Imagine - he was in charge of CFRB when it was still "Ontario's Authoritative News Voice," and he oversaw personalities like Gordon Sinclair, Bob Hesketh and Jack Dennett. That must have been some job trying to corral those strong personalities. I wonder if he knew and what he thought about how that once mighty newsroom had been almost completely dismantled by Bell.
There was another obit that was easily missed in the Star that also has a tie to a well-known Toronto media personality. A woman named Mavis Churchill passed away on Thursday at the age of 94. One of her daughters is Denise Donlon, the former honcho at MuchMusic. She was also in charge of CBC English radio for a time, as well as Sony Music.
Her husband, Canadian crooner Murray McLauchlan, is Donlon's husband.
Condolences to all who have lost a loved one. Famous or not, it's never easy to say goodbye.
