Caledonia station launches new format today!

CKJN-FM Country 92.9 is no more. As of today, Durham Radio closed it's acquisition of the Vista Radio station, and changed to CHTG-FM 92.9 The Grand, playing Classic Hits.

The station had a launch party at their location in Caledonia, and much of the on-air staff are experienced in the format and former CKOC personalities.

Peter Jaycock leads mornings, with former CKOC morning man/PD Ted Yates covering middays. Rock 'n' Ray Michaels returns to commercial radio to host the drive show. He most recently hosted an internet radio show on D-Moos. And Shelly Marriage rounds out the team doing evenings and weekends. She was most recently with CHCH, but went to on-call status when the station declared bankruptcy last December.

Great to see the CKOC gang together again. Anyone know if the signal gets into Hamilton well?

Not sure Dale, but a comment submitted from a listener on their webpage seems to indicate it might not be making it everywhere in the Steel City:

"We really missed you. The only complaint is that we can't get it on our radio and we only live on Stoney Creek Mountain. Which is east mountain Hamilton."

By the way, there's another comment on the site from Pat Bergin, who lists himself as "lazy. good-for-nuthin' hunk of human meat at Retired." I don't have to tell Dale that most here know him as Scott Carpenter.

Re: Caledonia station launches new format today!

This is the same station that, when it launched in 2007, had 60 per cent Can Con. That's a LOT of Can Con, and they must have had it lowered at some point as it is now 40 per cent. From Wiki:

"The application proposed a unique multi-genre Canadian format including a minimum 60% fully qualified Canadian content as defined by CRTC regulations. The balance of music would contain Canadian elements. This percentage was selected to enable the station to play popular music by Canadian artists that does not qualify under present rules as Canadian content."

What on earth could Rae Roe have been thinking?

I think it was just a sop to get a license.

Re: Caledonia station launches new format today!

Glad to see Ted Yates back on the air.  Great guy and a real pro. I understand he is PD as well?
