Longtime Kitchener Host Signing Off Friday After Decades In Radio

He may not be a household name in the GTA, but Brian Bourke has been called a "legend" in Kitchener-Waterloo, where he's served on several stations for decades. His tenure ends on 570 News Friday afternoon, after Rogers refused his request to match a salary he was being offered at a new out-of-the-business job.

"Bourke’s announcement that he would be leaving, made earlier this week on Twitter, said that he and the station had had “a disagreement over my value. Those things happen. It’s time to move on.”

"What happened was this: Bourke was offered a job in media relations at Elections Ontario at a higher salary. He asked the station management if they’d discuss bringing his salary up. They declined to discuss it. So he’s going to Elections Ontario, and looking forward to promoting casting a ballot as the way to solve disagreements in this province."

Re: Longtime Kitchener Host Signing Off Friday After Decades In Radio

Brian and I worked together on the all night show first on FM 96 and then simulcast on radio 980/FM 96 in London back late 1979/1980.  Brian did the hourly newscasts overnight and I was doing the overnight shift announcing.  We only worked together for about seven months at CFPL but I have only good memories working with him.  We have chatted a few times here in K/W at the mall and a few local events.  All the best Brian and good luck with Elections Ontario.
