He was born in Czechoslovakia, but went into showbiz in Toronto, and eventually produced and/or directed films like "Animal House," "Meatballs," "Ghostbusters," "Stripes" and dozens of other box office smashes.

But Ivan Reitman also holds a special place in local Toronto media. He was the man behind "Greed," an ultra-cheap Rummy Bishop-hosted game show that was one of the first shows on City TV after it signed on in 1972. The shoe string budget was laughable and so were the "prizes." But its cheapness was the very hallmark of the show. It was produced with a weekly budget of just $500. And its announcer was another name who would long be tied to Reitman - Dan Aykroyd. 

Reitman was 75. No cause of death has been released, but his family says he went the way most of us would like to - in his sleep.
